About: Laura

I'm a 26 year old artist and mountain bike rider. I've been a part of the riding community since April 2006 when my husband bought me a relatively inexpensive bike and took me to the local toe path. It wasn't until my second ride where I was introduced to Pennsylvania's notoriously rocky single-track that I become wholeheartedly smitten with the sport. Back then I could be seen rockin' pedals and sneaks while wearing cheeky short shorts. Don't worry. It wasn't long before I discovered clipless pedals and bike shorts. Although, I can't remember if it was the onset of saddle sores or the nickname "Cheeks" that convinced me to start upgrading my apparel. In May 2010, after trying a couple of sport races the year prior, I began racing the women's elite open class. In late August, I was diagnosed with Lyme disease and had to cut the season short. Little did I know then that my career would be over before it hardly even began. Merely overnight I couldn't even walk a block, let alone pedal over a mountain. It's been one heck of a journey back to health since, almost 3 1/2 years ago. Although I'm not "better" and may never be given the nature of the disease, I'm so blessed to be "better than I was" and back in motion. I find myself doing more running and other simpler and gentler activities than mountain biking. And I'm okay with that for now. I've come a long way. Did I mention I CAN bike again at all!!! Follow me as I chronicle my journey to maintain a healthy lifestyle, live simply, and capture life's everyday pleasures.
